A New York man accused of a fraud and money laundering scheme in Port St. Lucie was arrested while trying to enter Canada, authorities said. Gibrill Diallo, 20, was charged with money laundering, scheme to defraud and grand theft. According to the St. Lucie County Sheriff s Office, the investigation began after a check mailed by a Port St. Lucie real estate company was stolen, fraudulently altered and deposited into a bank account established using a stolen identity. During the investigation, detectives traced the stolen money through multiple bank accounts and Zelle transfers that were allegedly used to hide its origin before the money was deposited into Diallo s bank account. Diallo, on Oct. 14, was apprehended by Canadian border authorities while attempting to enter Canada from the United States. He was detained at the Niagara County Jail in New York before being extradited to St. Lucie County on Oct. 21.
